Five Education majors and two faculty members presented at the 2024 Paul D. Lack Scholars Showcase on April 26. The Showcase celebrates faculty and student research, scholarship, and creative works.
Four seniors presented with Dr. David Nicholson, Professor of Education, on the topic, 鈥淧hilosophy of Education: Design Your Own a School.鈥 Dr. Nicholson introduced the topic, which is the culminating project of the Philosophy of Education course. Each student in the course designs an original school based on a particular philosophical perspective on education, describing the purpose, curriculum, instructional and assessment methods, organization, and physical features of the proposed school. Katelynn Morris, Early Childhood Education, designed a website on the Monarch Valley Elementary School, based on Montessori education. Val Quintanilla Carranza, Elementary Education, presented a website on the Bayshore Primary Institute for Bilingual Learners. Chloe Binas, Middle School Education: Math/Science, displayed SIMS images of the Flore Middle School. Jarrett Urban, Middle School Education: Math/Science, presented a website on the Innovations STEM Academy.
Dr. Valerie Valdez, Assistant Professor, presented on 鈥淧reservice Teachers鈥 Connections Between the NGSS Practices and Justice-Centered Science Pedagogy.鈥 Justice Simpson, Junior Elementary Education major, presented a poster on his research project, 鈥淎 Helping Hand: Supporting Second Graders in Reading Fluency.鈥
